Ven. Buddha Priya Mahathero is the founder of the organization. He comes from a humble Buddhist family and had his ordination at a very young age. He was a homeless wonderer going through courses of meditation and monastic experiences at Rangamati Forest Meditation Centre, Goenka Igotpuri, India, Dhammakaya Monastery in Thailand and other monasteries of Laos, Singapore etc. He has widely traveled in India and Buddhist Countries of south East Asia.

He was early deeply disturbed from his early days by the suffering of humanity and was greatly impressed by the Social and Humanitarian work undertaken by Buddhist Monks of South- East Asian Country.

Returning to India he became a meditation Teacher and concentrated on Social Upliftment, Poverty Alleviation, Education and Employment Assistance etc.His primary aim was to bring up poor, orphan children of tribal areas and initially he operated from a rented house at Dum Dum area of Kolkata.

Later, he received a gift of 3600 sqft. Of land from a kind hearted philanthropic person. He erected a tiled shed and started an orphanage with a primary school. He provided food and shelter for 40 orphan children, took care their education, medical treatment, clothes, textbooks, and exercise books etc.

He helped no. of boys to study at other schools. Looked after their vocational training and helped to get established in life.

In the year 2003 Siddharth United Social Welfare Mission purchased a second piece of land measuring 2160 sft.

The Siddharth United Social Welfare Mission expanded to include a Homoeo Clinic an Allopathic treatment Centre providing free treatment and medicine to the local poor in urban slums and others hailing from distant villages. At Chinar Park, there is a minor hospital in the offing with indoor facilities for sick children of the orphanage.

The Missionary activities of Ven. Buddha Priya Mahathero invited attention of the backward people of Gazipur, U. P. where there are villagers. A school for backward community girls has come up at KOTIA with the help of some kind hearted people. It is known as Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Madhyamik Balika Vidyalaya.

Several Seminars, Workshops have been held on Education, Health, and World Peace etc. Ven. Buddha Priya Mahathero has honored Scholars, Intellectuals, and Monks with tittles and degrees almost every year. The seminars organized on Human Rights, Rights of Women and Children were will attended.

Ven. Dr. Buddha Priya Mahathero is basically a theravadi Buddhist. But he is a monk of Liberal views and he has been equally respectful to Buddhists of all schools. Infect he is friendly with all and his spirit of brotherhood has endeared him to Ramakrishna Mission, Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Addyapeeth, Dakshineshwar and the Institution of Mother Teresa, the Missionaries of Charity at Kolkata. He is a highly respected monk amongst the members of the Theosophical Society of India. His modesty, humility and sincerity have earned him access to people of all communities, religions and languages all over India and a large past of the World outside India.
